How to use Snapchat fonts
- Type your caption or name in the box. Every style updates as you type.
- Tap Copy on the style you like, or tap the preview.
- Open Snapchat and paste it:
- Caption on a snap: take the snap, tap the screen or the T tool, then long-press and paste.
- Display name: Profile → Settings (gear) → Name, paste and save.
- Chat: paste into the message box like any text.
The conversion happens on your device; nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Snapchat’s built-in caption fonts
Snapchat has its own text tool, and it is worth using when you are captioning a snap. Tap T to add text. The default is the classic caption: white text on a translucent black bar across the screen, which you can drag up or down. Tapping T again switches to larger styles with no bar, including big bold text you can resize and rotate with two fingers, and centred or left-aligned variants. Recent versions add a font picker with extra typefaces and effects such as outlines, glow and colour gradients, and a colour slider on the side. The exact set of styles changes as Snapchat updates the app and varies between iPhone and Android.
Built-in styles only exist inside the snap image, though. They do not work in your display name, in chats, or in a Spotlight description. That is where Unicode fonts from this page come in, and you can also combine the two: paste a cursive or gothic caption into the text tool and then apply Snapchat’s big-text style and colour to it.

Why these fonts work in Snapchat
Snapchat does not let you pick a font for text outside the snap editor, but it displays any Unicode character your phone can draw. Unicode includes complete styled alphabets that were created for mathematics, such as Mathematical Sans-Serif Bold (U+1D5D4 onward) and Mathematical Bold Script (U+1D4D0 onward), as well as circled letters, small capitals and fullwidth forms from East Asian typography. The generator swaps each letter you type for its styled twin. The result is text, not an image, so it can be pasted into the caption box, your name and chats.
A few details: numbers are only styled in the bold, bold serif, outline, typewriter, bubble and wide styles, because the other alphabets have no digits in Unicode. Accented letters keep their accent. Emoji pass through unchanged, so you can mix them freely.
Tips for good-looking Snapchat captions
- Bold and cursive read best on top of photos. Thin script and small caps can disappear against busy backgrounds; use Snapchat’s caption bar behind them.
- Keep names short. Styled letters take more space, and Snapchat truncates long display names in chat lists and on the map.
- Keep your real name findable. Friends who search for you type plain letters. A styled display name is fine because your username still works for search and adding.
- Accessibility: screen readers may read styled characters letter by letter with long names like “mathematical bold script capital S”, or skip them. For information that matters, such as an event time, use plain text.
- Check on another phone. If a friend sees boxes, switch to bubble or small caps, which are supported on older devices too.

Frequently asked questions
How do I change the font on Snapchat?
When you add a caption, tap the T text tool and tap it again, or use the font button in newer versions, to switch between Snapchat's built-in caption styles. For a font Snapchat does not offer, copy a style from this generator and paste it into the caption, your display name or a chat.
Can I use these fonts in my Snapchat display name?
Usually yes. The display name accepts Unicode letters and emoji, so bold, cursive and other styles paste in. Snapchat may shorten long names, and each styled letter can count as two characters. Your username cannot be changed to styled characters; it only allows letters, numbers and a few symbols.
Why do some letters show as boxes on my friend's phone?
Their device lacks a font for those characters. Bold, italic, cursive and gothic styles work on current iPhones and Android phones; older phones may show boxes. The bubble and small caps styles are the most widely supported.
Are these real fonts?
No. They are Unicode characters that look like styled letters, such as mathematical bold or script alphabets. Because they are characters rather than formatting, they keep their look when you paste them into Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok or a text message.
Do fancy fonts work in Snapchat chats and stories?
Yes. You can paste them into chat messages, story captions, Spotlight captions and the text on snaps. They cannot be used in Lenses or in search, and people searching for your name in plain letters may not find a styled display name.
Is using special fonts against Snapchat rules?
Styled characters are ordinary Unicode text and are widely used in display names and captions. Do not use them to impersonate someone or to hide banned words, which breaks Snapchat's community guidelines regardless of the font.
