Text Encryption and Decryption Tool

Encrypt text with a password or decrypt it back, using AES-GCM in your browser.

What you can do here

How encryption and decryption work here

The password is hashed with SHA-256 to make a 256-bit AES key. Each encryption uses a fresh random 12-byte IV and AES-GCM, which also detects tampering, and the result is written as iv:ciphertext in hex. Decryption splits the two parts and fails loudly if the password is wrong or the text was changed.

Common questions

How secure is this?

AES-GCM is strong, but the key comes from a single SHA-256 of your password, so security depends on the password. Use a long, unique passphrase.

I lost the password. Can I decrypt?

No. There is no recovery; without the password the text cannot be decrypted.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. Encryption and decryption run locally with the browser's Web Crypto API.
