Generate random English words by part of speech, or random French and Spanish words with their English meanings, filtered by first letter and length.
Pick a language and a part of speech, narrow the list by first letter or word length if you like, set how many words you want and press Generate. Keep No repeats ticked for a list of unique words. Click any word card to copy it, or copy and download the whole list as text or CSV. Every option can be linked, for example ?mode=noun, ?mode=adjective, ?mode=french or ?mode=spanish.
Choose Nouns to draw from about 456 common English nouns. The noun type filter splits them into concrete nouns you can see and draw, such as lantern, volcano or penguin, and abstract nouns for ideas and feelings, such as courage or curiosity. Concrete nouns make good Pictionary, charades and sketching prompts; abstract nouns suit writing and discussion prompts.
Choose Adjectives for about 277 describing words, from ancient and fluffy to stormy and zany. Pair a random adjective with a random noun for instant character names, band names or story titles, or use them to practise descriptive writing.
Verbs (about 250 action words like juggle, wander and whisper) are useful for charades and improv games, and adverbs (about 132, such as reluctantly or merrily) for the classic adverb acting game and for grammar practice.
Set the language to French to get everyday French words with their English meaning: nouns with the article that shows their gender (la maison = house, le fromage = cheese), common adjectives and infinitive verbs such as voyager = to travel. It works as a quick flashcard deck: generate a few words, hide the meanings by switching Show to Word only, and test yourself.
Set the language to Spanish for common Spanish vocabulary with English translations, such as la mariposa = butterfly, valiente = brave and viajar = to travel. Nouns keep el or la so you learn the gender with the word, and the first-letter filter ignores the article.

Writers use random words to beat writer's block, teachers use them for spelling and vocabulary games, designers use them for brainstorming, and players use them for Pictionary, charades, Taboo-style games and word association. For passphrases, combine four or more random words with numbers; for real passwords, a dedicated password generator is safer.
Up to 500 per click. With No repeats ticked each word appears only once; if your filters match fewer words than you asked for, the tool shows all the matching words and tells you.
