    Random songs with lyrics

Each result is a real, released song with its artist, release year and genre, and three links: Lyrics searches Genius, Listen searches YouTube and Spotify opens the song search in Spotify. Song lyrics are copyrighted, so this page does not copy them; the links take you to licensed sources in one click.

    Ideas for random songs

    Songwriting prompts and lyric starters

The Songwriting prompt mode gives you an original opening line (written for this tool, not taken from any real song), a theme, a mood, a key, a tempo in BPM and a song structure, for example: “Every red light feels like a sign” – a bittersweet song about leaving your hometown, in A minor at 92 BPM. Use it to break writer’s block or as a daily songwriting exercise.

    Frequently asked questions

Does this show the full song lyrics?

No. Song lyrics are copyrighted, so the page links to them instead: the Lyrics link searches Genius for the exact song and artist, and the Listen links open YouTube and Spotify.

How many songs are in the random song generator?

276 well-known songs from 1956 to 2024 across 14 genres, each with the artist, release year and genre.

Can I get a random song from a specific decade or genre?

Yes. Use the Genre and Decade filters, for example Hip-Hop from the 1990s or Pop from the 2020s. The counter under the results shows how many songs match.

Are the songwriting prompt lines from real songs?

No. The opening lines in Songwriting prompt mode were written for this tool, so you can use them freely as a starting point for your own lyrics.

Can I make a random playlist?

Yes. Set How many to the number of songs you want with No repeats on, then export the list as CSV or TXT and search the titles in your music app.
