What the random name generator does
Every first name in the list is a real given name, grouped by the culture it is most used in and by gender. Choose First + last name and the surname comes from the same tradition, so an Italian first name gets an Italian surname (Giulia Esposito) and a Nigerian first name gets a Nigerian one (Chidi Okafor). The names are combinations of real names, not real people.

Random boy name generator
The Boy names tab draws from 366 boy names. English (modern) covers names popular with parents today such as Liam, Theodore and Hudson; English (classic) has adult names such as Robert, Kenneth and Howard that suit older characters; the other 16 origins add names like Mateo, Lorenzo, Soren, Haruto and Emeka. Set the format to First + last for a random male full name.
Random girl name generator
The Girl names tab draws from 346 girl names, from modern favourites (Olivia, Hazel, Wren) and classics (Margaret, Barbara, Susan) to Aoife, Giulia, Freja, Ananya, Sakura and Chioma. Use the Starts with filter to match a sibling’s initial or a character concept.
Gender-neutral and unisex names
The Gender-neutral tab has 122 names used for any gender, such as Avery, Rowan and Emerson in English, Camille and Sacha in French, Kiran in India and Hikaru in Japan.
Name order in East Asian names
Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese full names are shown given-name first, as they are often written in English, with the traditional family-name-first order in the Native order chip (for example Haruto Tanaka / Tanaka Haruto).
Frequently asked questions
Are these real names?
Yes. All 834 first names and 419 surnames are real names in use. Full names are random combinations of them, not the names of specific people.
Can I generate only boy or only girl names?
Yes. Use the Boy names or Girl names tab, or set Gender on the All names tab. There is also a Gender-neutral tab with 122 unisex names.
Can I get names from a specific culture?
Yes. The Origin filter covers 18 traditions, and full names use a surname from the same tradition so the name stays consistent.
Can I generate a full name with a middle name?
Yes. Set Format to First, middle + last. The middle name is another given name of the same origin and gender.
Can I use the names for characters or test data?
Yes. Generate up to 50 at a time and export them as CSV or JSON. Because full names are random combinations, avoid presenting them as real people.
