    What is an aesthetic?

An aesthetic is a recognisable visual style and mood that people use for clothes, rooms, photos and social media feeds. Many started as internet subcultures on Tumblr, Pinterest and TikTok, and are named with a “-core” suffix (cottagecore, goblincore, fairycore). Others borrow from a decade or movement (Y2K, 80s neon, Art Deco) or a genre of fiction (cyberpunk, steampunk, solarpunk).
