Base64 to Image

Paste a Base64 image data URL to decode and preview it locally.

Decoded image preview

What this tool does

This is the reverse of encoding an image to Base64: paste a Base64 image data URL and it renders as an actual picture, right in the page. It's useful when you've pulled a Base64 image out of an API response, an email's HTML source, a database column, or a CSS file, and you want to quickly check what the picture actually looks like without writing any code.

How to use it

  1. Paste the full data URL into the input box — it needs to start with data:image/, the format, then ;base64, and the encoded text.
  2. Click Preview Image. The browser's own image renderer decodes it locally and displays it below the input.
  3. Right-click (or long-press on mobile) the preview to save it as a regular image file if you need one.

A note on the input format

This tool expects the full data URL, not just the raw encoded characters. If you only have the bare Base64 text — no data:image/... part — prepend the correct MIME prefix yourself, for example data:image/png;base64, or data:image/jpeg;base64,, before pasting. Getting the MIME type wrong (say, labeling a JPG as PNG) usually still renders fine, since browsers largely sniff the actual bytes, but it's best practice to match it correctly.

FAQ

What format does the pasted text need?

A complete data URL: data:image/<type>;base64, followed by the encoded characters. A bare Base64 string without that prefix won't preview.

I only have the raw Base64 text, no prefix — now what?

Add data:image/png;base64, (or the correct type for your file) directly before the string, then paste the combined text.

Is the data sent anywhere to render the preview?

No — the browser's own image element decodes it locally; nothing is uploaded.

Can I save the decoded picture?

Yes, right-click the preview and choose Save Image As.
