PDF to Base64 Converter

Encode a PDF file as Base64 or decode Base64 back into a PDF locally in your browser.

PDF Base64 conversion steps

  1. Keep PDF to Base64 selected and choose a local PDF file.
  2. Select Convert to create a Base64 data URL in the output box.
  3. Copy the result into an API request, JSON fixture, or test document.
  4. To restore a file, choose Base64 to PDF, paste the encoded value, and select Convert.

The decoder accepts a raw Base64 string or a PDF data URL beginning with data:application/pdf;base64,. Invalid, truncated, or non-PDF data may fail to decode, so verify the source and downloaded file before production use.

Base64 size and privacy notes

Base64 increases binary size by roughly one third and is not compression or encryption. It is best for controlled payloads and test data, not large document storage. All conversion takes place locally in the browser; the selected PDF and pasted text remain on your device.

Encode and decode PDF files as Base64

Base64 is a text representation of binary data that is sometimes used in JSON payloads, APIs, HTML, CSS, email attachments, and document transport. This PDF Base64 converter can create a data URL from a local PDF file or decode a Base64 PDF back into a downloadable PDF.

Large PDFs produce large Base64 strings, so use this tool for testing and controlled integrations rather than as a compression method. Processing happens locally in the browser, and the selected file is not uploaded to a server.
