How emoji look on different devices

Emoji are Unicode characters, so the same code point is drawn by Apple, Google, Samsung, Microsoft and others in their own style. A few newer emoji may show as a box on older systems. Code points such as U+1F98A identify the emoji exactly, whatever it looks like on your screen.

Frequently asked questions

Each platform draws emoji in its own style, and very new emoji may not display on older systems. The underlying character is the same.
