Random Element Generator
Pick a random chemical element from the periodic table, filtered by group, period or state, or switch to a random planet, dwarf planet or moon.
Pick a random chemical element from the periodic table, filtered by group, period or state, or switch to a random planet, dwarf planet or moon.
Leave Pick from on chemical elements and press Generate for a random element from all 118 in the periodic table. Each card shows the symbol, atomic number, name, atomic mass, group, period, element category and whether it is a solid, liquid or gas at room temperature. Narrow the draw with the group, period, state and atomic-number filters, raise How many for a list, and keep No repeats ticked to draw without replacement, like pulling cards from a deck.
| Group | Count | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Alkali metals | 6 | Lithium, Sodium, Potassium |
| Alkaline earth metals | 6 | Magnesium, Calcium, Barium |
| Transition metals | 34 | Iron, Copper, Gold |
| Post-transition metals | 8 | Aluminium, Tin, Lead |
| Metalloids | 6 | Boron, Silicon, Arsenic |
| Reactive nonmetals and halogens | 12 | Carbon, Oxygen, Chlorine |
| Noble gases | 6 | Helium, Neon, Argon |
| Lanthanides and actinides | 30 | Neodymium, Uranium, Plutonium |
| Unknown properties (superheavy) | 10 | Meitnerium to Oganesson |
Periods are the rows of the table (1 to 7). The First 20 elements preset matches what many school courses ask students to learn by heart, from hydrogen to calcium. Synthetic elements (technetium, promethium and americium onwards) can be excluded or picked on their own.
Switch Pick from to Planets, dwarf planets & moons to draw from the eight planets, five recognised dwarf planets (Ceres, Pluto, Eris, Haumea and Makemake) and fifteen notable moons. Each result gives its distance from the Sun or the planet it orbits, its diameter, how many moons it has and a fact worth remembering, such as Venus being the hottest planet or Ganymede being bigger than Mercury. Moon counts for the giant planets keep rising as astronomers find small moons, so they are shown as minimums.
All 118 elements of the periodic table, from hydrogen (1) to oganesson (118), with symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, group, period, category and state.
Yes. Use the First 20 elements preset or set Atomic number to 1 to 20. Other presets pick transition metals, noble gases, halogens or lanthanides.
Yes. Set How many to the class size and keep No repeats ticked. Each element appears once, and you can download the list as a CSV.
Only bromine and mercury in this table. Eleven are gases, and the superheavy elements from fermium (100) onwards are marked unknown because only a few atoms have ever been made.
Yes. Switch Pick from to Planets, dwarf planets and moons, or open ?mode=planet, to draw one of the eight planets, a dwarf planet or a major moon with key facts.
