Color Converter Suite: HEX, RGB, HSV, CMYK, RGBA and Color Tone

Choose what you have and what you need — CMYK to RGB, HEX to HSV, RGB to color tone or any other pair — and get the answer as you type, with every other format listed underneath. Runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

What you can do here

Every pair between seven color notations works in both directions. The ones people search for most:

Input is forgiving: #4f46e5, 4F46E5, #abc, rgb(79, 70, 229), 79 70 229, hsv(243, 69%, 90%) and cmyk(66%, 69%, 0%, 10%) are all accepted. If you paste a value with a prefix such as rgb( or cmyk(, the converter reads it as that format even if the “from” menu says something else. Each conversion has its own link, for example /color-suite?mode=cmyk-to-rgb, so you can bookmark the one you use.

Conversion formulas

HEX to RGB and RGB to HEX

Split the six digits into three pairs and read each as a base-16 number: 4F = 4×16 + 15 = 79, 46 = 70, E5 = 229, so #4F46E5 is rgb(79, 70, 229). RGB to HEX is the reverse: write each channel as two hex digits and join them. A 3-digit code doubles each digit, so #abc is #aabbcc.

HEX to RGBA

The RGB part is the same; alpha is 1 for a 6-digit code. For 8-digit HEX the last pair is alpha out of 255: #4F46E580 → 128 / 255 ≈ 0.5 → rgba(79, 70, 229, 0.5).

RGB to HSV and HSV to RGB

r, g, b = R/255, G/255, B/255
max = max(r, g, b);  min = min(r, g, b);  d = max - min
V = max
S = max == 0 ? 0 : d / max
H = 60 x ((g - b)/d mod 6)   if max == r
    60 x ((b - r)/d + 2)     if max == g
    60 x ((r - g)/d + 4)     if max == b

HSV to RGB:  C = V x S;  X = C x (1 - |(H/60) mod 2 - 1|);  m = V - C
pick (C,X,0), (X,C,0), (0,C,X), (0,X,C), (X,0,C) or (C,0,X) by 60-degree sector,
then add m to each channel and multiply by 255

RGB to CMYK and CMYK to RGB

K = 1 - max(r, g, b)
C = (1 - r - K) / (1 - K)      M = (1 - g - K) / (1 - K)      Y = (1 - b - K) / (1 - K)

R = 255 x (1 - C) x (1 - K)    G = 255 x (1 - M) x (1 - K)    B = 255 x (1 - Y) x (1 - K)

HEX to CMYK, CMYK to HSV and the other cross pairs go through RGB: convert to RGB first, then from RGB to the target.

What “color tone” means here

In color theory a tint is a hue mixed with white, a shade is mixed with black, and a tone is mixed with gray. Converting to color tone gives you the HEX code together with a plain-language description — hue family (for example “blue-violet”), warm or cool, light, medium or dark, vivid or muted — and a strip of tints, shades and tones you can click to copy. Converting from a color tone takes its HEX code (or a CSS color name such as teal) and returns RGB, HSV, CMYK and the rest.

Worked example: #4F46E5

HEX#4F46E5
RGBrgb(79, 70, 229)
RGBArgba(79, 70, 229, 1)
HSVhsv(243.4, 69.4%, 89.8%)
HSLhsl(243.4, 75.4%, 58.6%)
CMYKcmyk(65.5%, 69.4%, 0%, 10.2%)
Color toneBlue-violet, cool, medium, vivid

Common questions

How do I convert CMYK to RGB?

Divide each percentage by 100, then R = 255 × (1 − C) × (1 − K), G = 255 × (1 − M) × (1 − K), B = 255 × (1 − Y) × (1 − K). Or choose CMYK → RGB above and type 66, 69, 0, 10.

Why does my CMYK to RGB result not match the printed color?

This formula, like every browser tool, is device-independent. Real print color depends on an ICC profile for the press, paper and ink (FOGRA39, GRACoL and so on). Treat the result as a screen approximation and let your print software apply the profile for final artwork.

What is the difference between HSV and HSL?

Both share the hue angle. In HSV (HSB) a value of 100% is the brightest version of the color; in HSL a lightness of 100% is always white and 50% is the pure color. Photoshop and Figma pickers use HSB; CSS uses HSL.

What does HEX to RGBA add over HEX to RGB?

An alpha (opacity) channel from 0 to 1. A 6-digit code gives alpha 1. An 8-digit code such as #4F46E580 stores alpha in its last two digits: 80 is 128, so the result is rgba(79, 70, 229, 0.5).

What is a color tone converter?

It describes a color by hue family, temperature, lightness and saturation, and builds its tints, shades and tones. Converting RGB, HSV or CMYK to color tone gives the HEX value plus that description and scale; converting a color tone back gives its RGB, HSV or CMYK numbers.

Is my color data uploaded anywhere?

No. Every conversion is arithmetic in JavaScript in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and the page keeps working offline once loaded.
