What is a QR Code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that encodes data as a pattern of black and white squares. Smartphones can scan and act on QR codes instantly — opening URLs, connecting to Wi-Fi, or dialing phone numbers. A single QR code can encode up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters.

What Can QR Codes Encode?

Error Correction Levels

QR codes have four error correction levels (L, M, Q, H) that allow partial damage or obscuring while still scanning correctly. Level M (15% correction) works for most use cases. Level H (30%) is useful when you want to overlay a logo in the center of the QR code.

What size should a QR code be for print?

At least 2 cm × 2 cm (about 0.8 inches) for reliable scanning at close range. For signage or posters viewed from a distance, scale up proportionally — at 1 meter scanning distance, use at least 10 cm × 10 cm.

Do static QR codes expire?

No. Static QR codes — like those generated here — encode data directly and work permanently as long as the encoded URL or content remains valid. Dynamic QR codes (offered by paid services) redirect through a short URL that can be changed or tracked.

Can I put a logo in the center of a QR code?

Yes, if you use error correction level Q or H, which provides 25–30% redundancy. The logo can cover up to that fraction of the code. Keep the logo small and ensure the four corner position markers remain fully visible.
