The HTML is parsed by the browser and rewritten in Pug syntax: ids and classes become #id.class shorthands (a div tag is implied), other attributes go in parentheses, short text stays on the tag line and mixed text uses | lines. Script, style and pre contents become dot blocks, and #{ is escaped so nothing is interpolated. <ul class="nav"><li><a href="/">Home</a></li></ul> becomes ul.nav / li / a(href="/") Home.
