How to use the Cash App fee calculator

  1. Enter an amount. In the default mode it is what the sender sends; switch to Recipient should get this amount to work backwards from a target.
  2. Choose how the sender pays. Balance, debit card and bank are free; a credit card adds 3%.
  3. Choose the recipient’s account. Personal accounts receive free; Cash App for Business accounts pay 2.75% on each payment received.
  4. Choose how the recipient cashes out. Standard deposit is free; instant deposit charges 0.5%–1.75% with a $0.25 minimum. Drag the rate slider to match the rate your app shows.
  5. Read the result: what the sender is charged, what lands in the recipient’s Cash App, what reaches the bank, and total fees as a percentage.

Working backwards: send enough to cover the fees

If you owe someone exactly $250 and they run a business account, sending $250 leaves them $243.12. To cover the fee you cannot simply add 2.75%, because the fee is charged on the larger amount too. The correct formula is amount ÷ (1 − 0.0275), so $250 becomes $257.07. With instant deposit on top, the two percentages compound, and the $0.25 minimum makes small amounts non-linear. The reverse mode handles all of that by searching cent by cent for the smallest amount that leaves the recipient with at least your target, then shows the full breakdown.

A credit card fee is different: it is added on top of what you send and does not reduce what the recipient receives, so to deliver $100 on a credit card you send $100 and are charged $103.

Understanding the instant deposit fee

Instant deposit moves money from your Cash App balance to a linked debit card in minutes. Cash App’s published range is 0.5% to 1.75%, and 1.75% is the figure most users see, which is why it is the calculator’s default. Because of the $0.25 minimum, the effective rate rises on small cash-outs:

Cash-outFee at 1.75%Effective rateFee at 0.5%
$5$0.25 (minimum)5.00%$0.25 (minimum)
$10$0.25 (minimum)2.50%$0.25 (minimum)
$20$0.351.75%$0.25 (minimum)
$100$1.751.75%$0.50
$1,000$17.501.75%$5.00

If you do not need the money today, standard deposit is free. Batching several small cash-outs into one also avoids paying the minimum repeatedly.
